And the winner is Rachel Bond from Wiltshire, UK.
We decided to award Rachel for her photo that was taken during her last stay at Vagli in early May. This is a very unusual shot that beautifully captures that particular moment in spring when you are surrounded by the most striking explosion of colours: the yellow of the Forsythia is turning green and, at the same time, the Lilac is in full bloom with its intense shades of "lilac" colour. …and the simple, but elegant architecture of the hamlet witnesses this further miracle of spring.
Brava Rachel! A very good eye!
The story of lilac, according to Greek mythology, begins with a beautiful nymph named Syringa (Lilac's botanical name). Captivated by her beauty, Pan, the god of the forests and fields, chased Syringa through the forest. Frightened by Pan's affections, Syringa escaped him by turning herself into an aromatic bush - the flower we now refer to as Lilac.
Rachel you rightly deserve a bottle of Brunello when you are back at your "Home in Tuscany", not just because of the photo but you had the boys with you to entertain.
